Fighting Stripes x House of Korean National Team
Filmed by Albert Kim. Post written by Michael Welch.
Honestly, when we first saw the leaks of the Nike kit that Korea would wear for the upcoming World Cup, our Tavern groupchat was underwhelmed. The red home kit seemed a little plain and uninspired. The black ones with the colors? Well, ummm, we didn’t really see anything Korean about them. I seem to remember one of the dads in our groupchat saying their kid could’ve colored a better kit than the black one (our groupchat is a hilarious place filled with a bunch of random jokes).
And then Nike released their PR tweet on the new World Cup kits and Korea was barely featured, save for a small photo of Hwang Heechan. It was disappointing, to say the least.
Turns out, the KFA and Nike were cooking up something absolutely incredible with which to debut their Taegeuk Warriors kits.
First, we got a full press event featuring the stars of both the men’s and women’s national team wearing the new kits. Then, there was news that a pop-up exhibit would feature all the kits that Nike had ever designed for Korea. I knew we had to be there. Luckily, Albert Kim (who I jokily refer to as our Korea correspondent) is in Korea and filmed his experience at the exhibit for everyone! Enjoy the video, with an appearance from DeadballTV’s Jack as well.
Which Taegeuk Warriors kit are you getting to wear as you cheer on the squad in Qatar? For me, the clear answer is that black away kit.
